Firework Safety
According
to the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), approximately 9,600 people
were treated for fireworks-related injuries in 2004. Because of this alarming
statistic, it is even more important to remind families to be safe while celebrating
with fireworks this summer. Here are some helpful tips:
·
Never
allow young children to handle fireworks.
·
Older
children can use fireworks, but must have parental supervision at all times.
·
There
should be no running or wrestling while fireworks are being used.
·
Keep
a bucket of water nearby when using fireworks at home.
·
Never
try to relight fireworks that are not fully functioning properly. Wait 15-20
minutes then immediately place the firework in cool water and discard.
·
Never
have a portion of your body over a firework when lighting and always wear eye
protection.
·
Never
point fireworks at other people.
·
Do
not make or experiment with homemade fireworks.
·
When
buying fireworks, make sure the person/store selling the items is reliable.
·
Light
fireworks one at a time.
·
Never
carry fireworks in your pocket.
